My Experience in Goethe-Institut Manila

If you want to live or study in Germany it is required to learn their first language. Since I was in College, it was always been my dream to study abroad mainly because I believe they are more advanced and syempre sosyal pakinggan hehe. My mom lived in Munich, Germany for the past 7 years with my stepdad. As I immediately found a good University here in Manila right after finishing high school, it doesn't cross my mind to study in Germany instead. But now that I am done with my 4-year course, I now regret not joining my mom and stepdad thinking that I was still young then at hindi ako mahihirapan sa pagkuha ng visa. But it's already done kaya heto ako ngayon nag-aaral ng Deutsch para lang makapunta ng Germany (cries). Enough with my story I'll just get to the point.

I enrolled in Goethe-Institut as this is the only accredited German school of German embassy here in Manila (As far as I know because the embassy always mention this school whenever I ask them). It is in Adamson Building (4th flr) in Salcedo Village. As I never had a German class before, they enrolled me on the most basic level which is the A1. It costs P19,500 and the schedule is Monday to Friday from 12nn to 4:30pm. But you can check the schedules that can fit on your schedule on their website as they also have weekend, morning and night classes. It includes 2 books with 1 CD each, free access in the library (you can borrow any books or CD's, and also use their laptop and iPad), and they also have teachers who can tutor you right after your class if you are having difficulty on your assignments or a certain lesson.

The first day was just an orientation about the rules, dates to remember like exams and date with no classes like on going examination from the other section or course. Nakakatanga lang nung una kasi karamihan sa sinasabi ng teacher ay naka-German na agad, nakatingin lang kami sa kanya na kunwari naiintindihan nalang namin (Haha!). Pero nung nagtagal nasanay na rin kami. Because we were instructed to try to speak in German such as asking to go to the bathroom. The first 1-2 weeks was the easiest (syempre). But when you are already on the second book it becomes confusing mainly because of the gender of the nouns. So it is important to do your assignments and do not copy from your fellow students because these assignments would serve as your practice. Practice lang talaga ng practice para madali mong matutunan.

Learning German is not easy, like any other language. But with Goethe-Institut it made it enjoyable and in a way that it is easier to be familiar with the rules on forming sentences. They always prepare games and group activities that could wake you up (Nakakaantok kasi sa classroom sobrang lamig.) The teachers are very approachable and really help you especially if it is required for you to pass the exam for your Visa. They have exams every Friday for you to be assessed on what part you are having difficulty with. They even approach you if you really need to have their free tutor based on your exams. Yes it maybe a bit pricey but it is totally worth it.
